Latest reviews for LE CAMP DU SOLEIL
So disappointing. We love this site and have visited many times in past. Just tried to book for 2023 and been informed that it has now gone over to statics only. Easy to see why of course! Statics extend the season and increase the profits. No more tents, caravans or motor homes. Where is their customer loyalty? So many of France’s best campsites have now become part of a chain and have lost their identity. A previously near perfect little site is now off limits to independent visitors. Such a shame!
This is the 4th time we have stayed at this site - the first time about 8 years ago. The location and the small size of the site and the rather good large pitches mean the campsite is a bit special - and worth paying a little more compared to other sites. We were worried about some of the very negative reviews - but went ahead with our week's stay in early August.Clearly things have changed - the site is under new management. Quite a number of camping pitches have newly been converted to mobile homes. Some of the more open and sunny pitches have been lost. In the heatwave year we were fine with a shady pitch - but in cooler weather this might not be so great. The growth of the mobiles homes has undoubtedly 'spoilt' the environment to an extent - some of the natural look of the site has been lost. Perhaps the atmosphere has changed a little as well (there seemed to be a bit more noise at night). Some of the camping pitches have been given over the children's entertainments. This is fine in itself but does point perhaps to a downgrading of the camping. One of the toilet blocks has been taken out of action - but I have to say that we found that the facilities were never too busy. I guess the mobile homes have their own facilities. The facilities do need to be cleaned more regularly and systematically - they were sometimes a little dirty - this should be easy to fix.The restaurant was excellent.Overall, we enjoyed our stay. To be 2 minutes cycle from the sea, 5 minutes cycle from a great little supermarket and 8 minutes from the lovely town and harbour of Ars was as lovely as ever. We would come back - maybe not next year, we will watch what happens and hope this does not shift anymore to a site for mobile homes.
I don’t usually review places but felt it may help people decide whether to book or not!The camps location is amazing - 5 minute stroll into ars en ré and about the same for a very nice beach (great for rockpooling with the kids). The staff were all amazing from start to finish. The restaurant on site had really nice food and great location to watch the kids a a great little park. The swimming pool was clean and generally the facilities around the campsite were really good.We were a bit disappointed with the childrens entertainment that was cancelled last minute on a number of occasions. The entertainers were great though and thoroughly enjoyed the swimming pool dance, they had great energy! The cleanliness of the site wasn’t too bad. There was a kitchen bin that wasn’t changed for a few that had muscles and a dirty nappy in and the smell wasn’t great. That said overall we had a great time, if the cleaning was a bit more rigorous and entertainment more structured we would definitely return. We didn’t see any rats but there was an owl that regular perched in a tree above our camp which was nice.
Very pleasant 2 weeks. Camp du Soleil is a very well kept site in a great location that probably due to it's size (not too big) attracts quieter families and tourists. In particular we liked the fact that the camping pitches where largely screened off with various plants and trees, many of which were in flower at the time of our visit. We chose to have a pitch with a covered kitchen area which was well equipped and saved us carrying cooking equipment. The facilities where always kept clean and there seemed to be enough so that you rarely had to wait for a shower or toilet. The pool was also kept spotlessly clean. My only minor complaint would be that the pitches are relatively small. We had to keep our vehicle off site due there being insufficient room for it to be parked near our tent. The site is in a great location with only a short walk to the pretty town of Are En Re, the nearest beach (and beach bar/cafe) and the local supermarket. The is also a great restaurant/bar on site which we gladly used on our first night. Overall very happy.
A bit disappointing. Staff very friendly and quickly rectified the problem with our deposit. We had sent it to the bank details on their website but that was inaccurate as they had changed banks. The actual pitch was rather dusty and in the shade and there was no incentive to sit outside. It all felt a bit unloved and think they were concentrating more on new mobile homes. Lovely pool and convenient for the village.
