Latest reviews for CAMPING DE L'OCÉAN
We were going to stay in La Rochelle but the site was full. Instead we drove down the coast and found this place. We thought it was almost empty but we found more campers further in. The pitch was OK (they have no numbers on display) but the ground wasn't looked after. Toilet block is very good. Not sure about the urinals directly outside the toilet cubicles though. The pool looked interesting. It was done like an artificial lake complete with a beach. It's a short walk down to the coast where we found a very long sandy beach packed with people. We walked back through town and there was an evening market on and some kind of event. We had to pay 20€ deposit each for a wrist band to be on the site. Got the money back the next day.
There's no possibility to fill water into camper. There's a water point but without hose. Receptionist just shrugged and said "we don't have it".Little camp shop is open till 1 pm. You can eat something (burgers, pizza, frites) only in small bar near camping lake. Besides saturdays, because the cook has day off on every saturday.Nice thing is lake intstead swimming pool.
Great camping we stayed 2 extra nights! The pool was amazing and the showers/toilets were clean. We went in late June and had the place almost to ourselves, very quiet and peaceful. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Many tiny insects like spiders but they didn't bother us too much.
Site set on edge of town a good 30 min walk from restaurant's. Modern facilities in new toilet block and a lovely pool area to relax in could do with some shade though. Only reason did not like was walk into town and the need to purchase a €40 wrist band although this is refundable when you leave
Probably fine if you are camping the shady half, but...Bad pitch and unhelpful reception: despite booking months in advance, we were put in the most desolate & exposed pitch. No shade, rocky ground. With heatwaves and a toddler amd pregnant partner, asked for a shady pitch (several we're empty). Offered only one, which was on a blind corner where their camp carts whizzed round, so refused it. Not offered any of the other vacant pitches. 'Not available'. No explanation or attempt to try and accommodate us.When asked for a parasol on day 2 (each chalet has one), it never arrived.Minor annoyance: 2 of the 4 electric points were broken so thought our old coolbox amd cable were on the blink after switching sockets. 1 unnecessary coolbox & cable purchase later we found out. My bad (arguably), but still, broken facilities.Wasteland play area. Pool only opens at 10.30: with kids up early and little else to do on the site (and no shade) we often had to leave the site before the pool opened. The one day we did wait, it was a delight. But not worth hanging around for it.Play area was basic and pretty awful environment - no shade again, rocky, ugly.OK toilet/wash facilities: only 2 open letterbox-sized bins for a whole toilet block, so quickly filled up with used sanitary towels, food waste, beer bottles and even dog poo bags.No other bins on site to my knowledge, only big municipal bins off-site down a pretty manky alleyway opposite the entrance.Cold showers if you go at busy times.Decent washing up facilities to be fair.I've been to many 3-star sites in my time, and this was below par. Would not recommend. If budget and location mean you'll take a punt, ask for a pitch in the shady half.
