Latest reviews for CAMPING AU PETIT PORT DE L'HOUMEAU
this is said to be a 4 star campsite but for me its more like 3 starthe mobile homes are way too close together with just enough room for the car, leaving no playing area at the mobile.there was a constant smell of waste water.the site was kept very clean and tidy and the reception and grounds staff were very nice, unlike the bar/restaurant staff who were very off hand.there are 4 bbqs available for people to use but only 2 grills, so lots of people (and families) were left waiting a looong time for dinner. no solution proposed when consulted about it.big play area at one end of the site with a nice pool also available.the pool closes at 6pm which is way to early for people who want to visit the area and enjoy the pool in the evening.Summary: very nice campsite in a good location but work to do to deserve their 4 stars.
A nice place for younger children, pool area ideal for kids. Cafe bar closed on Mondays, food served at 12 til 2 and from 7 until 9. We hired 2 chalets, a 2 bedroom with one double and 2 single beds which was amazing, had ensuite to main bedroom aswell as separate bathroom for 2nd bedroom. Good kitchen area and good size patio area. Chalet 2 was a three bedroom, very small, one shower for all, no oven and looked tired. Chalets are very close to each other and can be rather noisy if neighbours are sitting outside
The much better option for couples and small camping cars than Les sables on the other side. The site is quiet and a little off the beaten track, wonderful coastal path nearby which you can walk on from 1 to about 60km. We biked it and was gorgeous!the site is small but the staff were lovely and put up with our limited French. We could look around and choose our pitch as we were here in early June off season. The bathrooms are old but absolutely functional with room to hang clothes when showering and a bench for shower gel etc.plenty of sinks and mirrors etc and even a very old hairdryer!
Tres Cher Expensive mobile Homes in a Bad condition. No Place between the mobile Homes. Water just dripping in the shower. Toilet seat isn't fixed well. Isn't worth it. A lot of chlor in the pool void skin problems... it's an commercial place... like XXL camping.
A great place to relax & enjoy the French countryside. The cabin they first gave us had a terrible stench of smoke in a non smoking room so they gave us an upgrade... Only a half hour bus ride into La Rochelle, the no 10 then the no 3 bus, so simple. Au Petit Port very dog friendly which is great as we had our Boxer dog with us. A few sticky points with the bus drivers, 1 driver didn't say anything, 2 asked us to put her lead round her mouth to muzzle her & 1 nearly refused us on & called his boss although he let her on in the end. We got a taxi back from L.A. Rochelle twice €15-17. Food at the onsit cafe/restaurant is fantastic. The pool is a good size especially for us who swim daily. We've loved every minute of our stay. Thank you to all the staff.
