Latest reviews for CAMPING MUNICIPAL LA GRIGNE
Nice campground under the shade of pine trees. Good supermarket on the ground, there are a lot of activities. Very quiet during the night. Sanitary facilities totally fine, shower pressure a little bit weak. Really beautiful beach which is a 5 minute bike ride away.
We spent a week here just with a tent and it was really nice. The camp ground is really near to the beach and has a lot of trees. The atmosphere was great but the sanitaries weren’t very clean. I think that is more about the guests than the service. On the camp ground are almost only german people. We came here in september/october and the prices are quite low at that time (16€ a night) which is nice.
Perfect pitch amongst the trees. So quiet and tranquil. Excellent cycle paths from the campsite along the coast and through the forest which avoided any traffic. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Right on the Atlantic coastline which is stunning. 10 minute drive to local supermarket and petrol station.
In short: there are campings that will give you the same experience for 10 to 15 euros less per night. La Grigne feels like your local run down McDonalds: corporate, soulless and without any character, providing the most basic of services with an OK meal. At least McDonalds is not expensive. To start out with it’s 45 euros a night for an extremely mediocre camping pitch. All pitches are situated in the middle of some pine trees, with no shrubbery, bushes or hedges at all, ergo no privacy or shade. The ground is sand, pine residue and some stones. There is not a single piece of grass to be found anywhere inside the gates apart from some depressing, sparsely located twig-like flowers and a maybe 3 bushes in total. It’s not La Gringe’s fault per sé, but I had a big wound on my foot and could not walk properly. Traversing the camping was difficult and quite painful at times. To continue, their rules are to be silent after 22:00, and the gates for the car close after 22:00 as well. They do play “Madagascar 3” on site on a big screen with huge speakers until midnight though. Also most of the camping guests don’t care. I wouldn’t care that much either if I just could get in again after 10, but I am forced to be there before with my car while the kids are running around screaming and the parents are laughing and talking loudly while getting drunk.Another point: it’s deserted from the rest of the world. There is a beautiful beach close-by but that’s it. There are no spots of French heritage, any viewpoints or any culture around this place at all. The weather when we were there was not great, which is not the camping’s fault but it made me realize what a hollow camping ground La Grigne is.Most of their staff is able to speak some English at least and most of them are friendly, but don’t expect anything else from them. The on-camping shop is very good: big assortment and decent prices. But there are no communal fridges, charger points or microwaves of the sorts. There is also one communal WiFi spot close to the camping’s bar. The WiFi is alright but most importantly it’s free. The bar is quite alright too. The on-site boulangerie doesn’t sell the authentic baguette, but is in no way afraid to ask the same price for less quality.La Gringe tries everything to reel you in on first glance, only for you to see the cracks after. Like a pretty restaurant which walk-in cooling cell is full of black mold because in the end nobody really cares.
Exactly as camping should be. Great staff. Clean. Safe. Bakery. Little supermarket. Tons of on-site activities. In the forest behind the beach. Respectful of nature / environment. We’ve been coming for three years.
