Latest reviews for CAMPING DU PONT D'ABENSE
Psychedelic refugee camp meets slasher movie set. The manager is an unfriendly old man with an annoying little dog that runs loose around the campsite. It laid a dog log on the pitch next to us and whizzed on our camping fridge and we ended up putting everything out of its reach including food. The facilities were really unsavoury and looked like they’d never been cleaned. The grimy shower cubicles looked well scary in the dim lighting (there was even an obligatory horror movie flickering fluorescent light in there) so we ended up washing in the nearby river. The campsite is next to a field of sheep so there are lots of big flies and you’ll also need a crate of midge repellent to complete your delightful stay here. This interesting camping experience will set you back a pricey 25 euros a night.
Nice location & plots between mature trees providing good shade. However, the facilities are old and when we visited, also dirty. The shower/toilet facilities were very dark as they had hopeless lighting and no windows or skylights (so even daylight didn't really help). No-one at reception when we arrived early evening and I felt like I'd inconvenienced the owner when I had to call them to come let us check in.
We ve stayed quite often in this region of the Pyrennees in gites and last year planned to stay here for a couple pf nights in our camper van, having seen this site on our travels. We were made to feel most welcome by the owners and Niki the dog, who made a friend of our collie Fin! The campsite is quaint, cosy and in the most beautiful setting with an abundance of walks, small village with local produce, especially the butchers! The owner Marcelle gave us routes for walks in the area which we did several times in our five day stay, we kept adding on days until we eventually had to leave! This is a favourite of ours and we will definitely return when we are in this area. Thank you both for your hospitality and kindness, good luck for the 2018 season.
Nice location and good showers
Lovely friendly independent site, we visited in our motorcaravan, half the price of more corporate sites, will return
